Voted as the scariest haunted attraction in Maine, this haunted trail will take you through various creepy locations with names such as “the Execution Center” and “the Buried Alive Cemetery.” To add to the excitement, the trail has a thrilling back story about a government-run facility overrun by demons as a result of deadly experiments. Recommended for children ages eight and up.

Terror Behind the Walls (Philadelphia, PA)

As featured on Syfy’s Ghost Hunters, the Eastern State Penitentiary is a massive supposedly haunted prison where ghosts and ghouls terrify you, grab you and even attempt to separate you from your group in a truly interactive experience. Is the event too scary for your kids? You won’t have to worry about that on Sunday nights when the Penitentiary hosts family nights until 7:30 p.m. where kids can say, “Monster, be good!” to make the terrifying performers stand down. No kids under the age of seven are permitted.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Orlando, FL & Anaheim, CA)

Each fall at the Magic Kingdom Park, Mickey Mouse and his crew treat families to days worth of entertainment featuring Disney Villains, Halloween-themed parades, firework celebrations and a live show featuring the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus! Monsters’ Museum of Houston (Houston, TX)

For three weeks, the Children’s Museum of Houston gets taken over by monsters and they turn the museum into total mayhem! This family event features pumpkin painting, arts and crafts projects and other creative activities. Additionally, families can even learn the “monster” language and examine slime blobs left by slobbering monsters. Don’t forget about Moe’s Monster Mash Bash on Oct. 31st where kids can dress in costume and enjoy fun tunes!

If anyone in your family loves classic horror movies, the Dungeon of Doom at the Hollywood Museum will be a fun attraction! Guests can walk through the actual prison corridor used in Silence of the Lambs and even take a peek into Hannibal Lecter’s jail cell! Additionally, the museum’s basement includes props and costumes from The Walking Dead, Frankenstein, Freddy Krueger and many other iconic horror movies and shows. Events from 13th Floor range from a game where you have to escape a room in an hour to terrifying chases from chainsaw-wielding psychopaths. These events are held in several major cities across the U.S. and are perfect for your older kids. Not recommended for children under the age of 12.
