Halloween gives children the opportunity to use their creative imagination and dress up as whatever they want to be. Throughout the years, certain children's costumes have become quite popular and are staples of the holiday. Some boys costumes that are popular year after year include pirates, ghosts, and vampires. Meanwhile, girls costumes tend to be less scary with costumes such as princesses, ferries and cats. These popular costumes usually come in a variety of styles in pre-assembled packages which makes choosing a costume quite easy.

Lately, the most popular children's costumes have been heavily influenced by popular culture..especially the movies. Captain Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean, Superman, Star Wars costumes, and Spider-man have been some of the most popular in the last few years. And although these pop-culture based costumes will never die out, they will probably lose their popularity and be replaced by the next popular movie or television character.

Another growing trend in Halloween is baby costumes. By tossing on a shirt and hat or a simple one-piece, your baby can be transformed into a pumpkin, bumblebee or even a lady bug! These infant costumes are easy to put on your child, are comfortable to wear so your child won't pull it off, and are safe. Plus they're really cute!

While infant costumes are a gaining popularity, the toddler age group is probably the most popular for Halloween costumes. Toddler costumes generally have fun themes that kids enjoy such as clowns, lions or princesses. And now that the child has grown up a little, face paint can be used to help complete the costume.

Halloween is usually a favorite of kids because it gives them a chance to dress up in costumes and go around the neighborhood to collect candy. And even though Halloween has been celebrated since the 9th century (back then called All Saints Day), there is no direct proof of costumes being worn before the 1900's. Trick or treating became popularized in the 1930's, which was also when the first mass produced costumes were created. As trends continue to change, who knows what will be in store for Halloween in the future...
