More proof that costumes are not just for Halloween. Actor and star of the new Disney family sitcom, Good Luck Charlie, admits on the Bonnie Hunt Show that as a child he loved to play dress up with costumes. That great use of imagination and cosplay probably had something to do with his success as an actor. Prior to this new sitcom which debuted in April on the Disney Channel, Jason Dolley has already starred in two Disney movies and a Disney sitcom.
Dolley told Bonny Hunt about his dress-up days. “I was big into playing dress-up. The day after Halloween, the stores would have big sales so my mom would go and buy new costumes. Me and one of my brothers, during the year, would just put the costumes on and become that character.”
Like we have mentioned in previous blogs, dressing up is a great way for kids to play. It is appropriate for boys and girls. They can explore different personas, occupations and characters. With costumes and accessories, the play possibilities are endless. A simple feather boa can turn a child into an actress, a socialite or a showgirl; a toy sword can turn a boy into a knight, a pirate or a gladiator. Just by using their imagination, a girl in a princess costume can create her own magical kingdom and a boy in a firefighter costume can rescue frightened people from a burning building.
