Everyday Costumes

A lot of people think about costumes only on Halloween or if they’re invited to a costume party. Personally, if I had to wait to be invited to a costume party to wear a great costume, I’d never get to wear one. You might get an invitation or two each year for a costume event, or, if you’re like me, those invitations just don’t seem to come. If you’re wondering when to wear that great costume you’ve had your eye on, there are a million and one times and reasons to wear it.

At Christmas time, everyone loves to feel more festive, and I find that it’s far easier to do so if you are in costume. The family may be irritating you and your wish list may be unrealistically long, but if you’re wearing an elf costume, Christmas is always a fun time. The same is true at Easter, the Fourth of July, your birthday and other times of the year when you just need a little something extra to make things more fun.

I also think that having a few costumes around to wear when you want to feel more creative is a great way to express yourself. You don’t have to go to the grocery store in an elf costume, but if you are wearing one, your holiday decorations will be far more interesting. If you are planning on hiding Easter eggs at Easter time like I am, think about how much more fun it would be if you were wearing a bunny costume.

If you have children, it’s a lot of fun to choose a special day to wear costumes, even if you have no real reason to do it. Costumes make any day special, and kids don’t have to wait until Halloween to wear a costume if you have a few extra ones around the house. You can tell the kids that if they clean up their rooms, you’ll all wear costumes to dinner. Kids are a lot more willing to listen if there’s a fun reward hanging over their heads, and few things are more fun than wearing cute costumes on an otherwise ordinary day.

If you don’t want to wear a full costume outside of Halloween, there are plenty of small costume parts that you can wear instead. Instead of a full bunny costume, you can choose a bunny tail and/or a pair of bunny ears instead. This adds a little dash of fun to the day without making the neighbors wonder what in the world is going on next door.
