There’s one Disney movie that rules over them all and that’s The Lion King. Released in 1994, it was Disney’s first film to feature an original story. And what an epic tale it was. We watched as Simba grew up, overcame challenges and learned what it meant to be a king. All with the help of some catchy tunes and some hilarious sidekicks.
Disney has been reimagining its classic animated movies as live-action films and in 2019, it was The Lion King’s turn. With its star-studded cast featuring big names like Beyonce, Donald Glover, Seth Rogan, Billy Eichner and the iconic James Earl Jones, audiences were roaring for more. While the visuals might have been different, the battle for Pride Rock was as tragic, dramatic and nail-biting as the original cartoon.
There are some among us who are purists and only accept the original animated Disney films. But as the great and wise Rafiki once said, “any story worth telling is worth telling twice.”
