In the movie, Hot Tub Time Machine four friends are sent back in time to the 1980s. The friends, down on their luck, decide to spend a weekend at a ski resort they frequented in their heyday, in particular Winterfest ‘86. After having too much to drink in a hot tub, they awake to find they have been transported back to the very time they long to relive. They realize this is the opportunity for the ultimate do-over. Hot Tub Time Machine stands out, not only for its very raunchy humor but also for the ultimate 80’s costume flashbacks.
The costumes in this movie are exactly what we think of when we picture 80’s costumes. The colors, the hair, and the shoulder pads – it all comes crashing back. The costume designer hit the nail on the head with these costumes and so does Costume SuperCenter. The women’s 80’s costumes feature neon, mesh, lace, brightly colored animal prints and big shoulder pads. Men’s 80’s costumes are big on heavy metal rocker costumes, MC Hammer pants, mullets and Michael Jackson styles.
