One of the easiest and most fun characters to assume is a clown. Don’t you love turning yourself into someone colorful that makes people happy? It doesn’t take a ton of creativity or time to become a clown. It’s a great choice for a costume party, and it’s also an easy way to entertain small children at a birthday party or church festival. Best of all, you get to be someone that makes other people happy.

Usually clowns are big and jolly. It’s always fun to dress in oversized clothes. Pants are usually several sizes too big and held up with suspenders. Top it off with a loose shirt. You can decorate a plain shirt by gluing pompoms to buttons. Add colorful accessories, like ties, belts, scarves, or striped socks.

Shoes can be traditional clown shoes or just ordinary shoes that are large and colorful. Brightly colored shoelaces can add a playful touch.

Painting on a clown face isn’t hard but may take some practice. Makeup can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. You can paint your entire face with white costume makeup, or just draw some rainbows, stars, or flowers on your face. Draw eyebrows with face paint or eyeliner. Paint the tip of your nose red or add a big bulbous clown nose. Draw exaggerated wide red lips.

An eye-catching wig can be red and curly or rainbow colors. A wig is an important part of the total clown look. Some clowns sport a bald head or a hat. Touch up your wig with glitter or tinsel.

When you dress like a clown, you’ll probably want to act like a clown – silly and fun. Maybe you’ll get a bit clumsy or goofy. The great part is now you have an excuse to clown around.

And don’t forget your smile!
