Mardi Gras Costumes

During Mardi Gras people dress up in costumes as part of the celebration. The costumes come in several styles but have a common element, the Mardi Gras colors. You'll be sure to see an array of king, queen, jester and pirate costumes in purple, green and gold which stand for justice, faith and power.

We carry all of the common styles of Mardi Gras costumes. The first is the French colonial dress for women done in vibrant colors and gold lame. You'll find a nice assortment of Mardi Gras Queen costumes done in this fashion that pays homage to New Orleans' French colonial settlers who brought the Mardi Gras tradition to Bourbon Street. The costumes feature full-length gowns, fancy sleeves and peplums. Jester and clown costumes are also among the most popular. They add a sense of fun and entertainment to the Mardi Gras parade. If you can juggle or dance, this is a great costume choice. Two lesser know Mardi Gras costumes are the pirate costume and the voodoo costume. Since the 1700's, New Orleans had close ties to the Caribbean where piracy and the practice of voodoo were rampant. Many of these individuals sailed to New Orleans and became part of the rich history.

Your costume should be a reflection of your personality. Just make sure you have at least one or two of the key colors and always add a mask and beads to be in true Mardi Gras fashion.
