Don’t you love dressing in matching couples costumes? There are so many possibilities. For one thing, it’s not too often you show up at a party in couples costumes when people can’t figure out who you are. I mean chances are, if they can’t tell who you’re supposed to be, they can figure out who your date is supposed to be, and then it all makes sense to them.

On the other hand, a sense of mystery is fun too. Coming up with a unique character that no one has ever thought of can be a blast. And if your date matches you, who cares if nobody can figure out who you are?

If you think of yourself as someone who has somewhat limited imagination, it might be easier to come up with couples costumes than a single costume.

Consider the following well-known couples:

  • Fred and Wilma Flintstone
  • Betty and Barney Rubble
  • Shrek and Fiona
  • Sonny and Cher
  • Pharaoh and Cleopatra
  • Raggedy Ann and Andy
  • Popeye and Olive Oyl
  • Aladdin and Jasmine
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Donald and Daisy Duck
  • Kermit and Miss Piggy
  • Sylvester and Tweety

Then there are more general matching costumes:

  • Doctor and nurse
  • Caveman and cavewoman
  • Zombie bride and groom
  • Devil and angel
  • Two apes
  • Male and female pirates
  • Cowgirl and cowboy
  • Priest and nun

You can dress for the same era, such as the 50s or 60s, or the roaring 20s. You can use the theme from Grease or the Addams Family. You can both dress as bikers or race car drivers. You can both be ghosts, vampires, or a Greek god or goddess. You can both be potato heads or mummies.

I bet there are dozens more ideas for costumes for couples. What couples ideas do you have?
