Poison Ivy Shoe Upgrade

Poison Ivy Cosplay Tutorial

It may not be Earth Day every day but Poison Ivy, the villainous vixen who basically bleeds green, is willing to break the rules to protect her beloved plants. Pamela Lillian Isley, Poisin Ivy’s true identity, has a uniqe immunity to plant toxins and it is that power she uses as a secret weapon. Her seductive looks set the trap and her poisonous kisses are deadly. Her motives however, make us question her villainous intent. She merely wants a world where all life is treated fairly, especially the precious plants she loves so dearly. Her encyclopedic knowlege of plant chemistry allows her to wage a war against the powerful exploiters of the the world’s natural resources. More proof that sometimes people do bad things in the name of good.

And that is why there is a special connection between Batman and Poison Ivy. He sees the humanity in her, and maybe she pities his tragic childhood. Their attraction is mutual but not exclusive. And let’s be honest, could a relationship ever work out between a hero and an Arkham Asylum inmate?

This cosplay tutorial from @itslorenia will walk you through the steps it takes to turn into the femme fatale Poison Ivy.

Start by removing your ivy leaves from the plastic that attaches it to the vine. I used four different types of leaves for my costume. One big, medium, small, and the ivy leaves directly from Costume SuperCenter’s website. You don’t need a variant size of leaves, but the bigger the leaf, the less time it will take to cover your base.

The next step is to glue the leaves to your base. I recommend using a black / dark green base incase you miss any spots with the leaves so it will not be heavily noticeable. I used a stretchy bodysuit so I needed to have it stretched when I glue on the leaves. If you do not use a stretchy base, you do not have to worry about placing it on anything when you glue. If you get a stretchy base, you can wear your base to glue, but I do not recommend it as you run the risk of burning yourself with hot glue. Instead you can place your base on a dress form, or if you’re like me without a dress form, you can use a pillow.

Lastly, I glued on some of my small and medium size leaves to my shoes.

The rest is up to you how you want to accessorize your costume. The nice thing about Poison Ivy is that she’s such a iconic character and there’s a lot of room for artists liberty to make your own design all while people still know who you are.
