While everyone loves the timeless options, the top selling Halloween costume trends are often based on pop culture characters for the current year. Our infographic features the industry’s best new costumes from 2007 to today. It’s fun to see how trends have changed.

This Halloween, creepy clowns are in. That’s why we’re predicting the #1 Halloween costume for 2017 to be Pennywise from the movie ‘IT’. This is the first time in over a decade that a horror-themed costume has cracked the top 5 most popular costumes of the year. It’s no surprise that this murderous clown would kill it and top the charts for Halloween with the box office success ‘IT’.

Continuing with the creepy theme is the Stranger Things’ Eleven costume. This telepathic girl, who loves Egos, is at the center of the twisted Netflix series. With the show’s season 2 premiere coming right before Halloween, you’ll be sure to see tons of girls and women wearing the costume of this powerful female.

And speaking of powerful females, none is more powerful than Wonder Woman! You too can fight for justice with your own Wonder Woman costume from the movie. We predict this superhero outfit to be the top-selling women’s costume for 2017.

Pirate costumes are popular every year. Combine that theme with the very popular Disney Descendants 2 and it’s no wonder Uma costumes, the daughter of Ursala, will be huge this year! The other Descendants costumes are also sure to be hot sellers for Halloween.

Rounding out the top five costumes for 2017 is Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow. The King in the North puts the HBO series back in the top five for the first time since 2014 when Daenerys Targaryen ruled the list!

You can check out our Trends Page every year as we update our list of the latest and greatest Halloween costumes of the year.
