While everyone loves the timeless options, the top selling Halloween costume trends are often based on pop culture characters for the current year. Our infographic features the industry’s best costumes from 2007 to today. It’s fun to see how trends have changed.
Some of our 2016 costume predictions have seen a slight shift from the Marvel-dominated 2015, with Thor and the Incredible Hulk getting the boot, or rather, the spiked high heel from DC Comics’ Harley Quinn. The crime queen of Gotham city exploded in popularity thanks to her feature film debut in Suicide Squad! Since the movie’s release, love for Harley has only continued to go up (despite reviews doing the opposite), and she’s set to be a top choice this Halloween.

Keeping with the theme of “Girls who kick butt,” we go from Harley Quinn to the hilarious cast of the reboot Ghostbusters! The all-female cast certainly proved their prowess in putting down pesky paranormals to save New York, and now they’re set to dominate the costume game! But, if you’re looking for a more political costume this year, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will be a surefire hit at parties! The Donald has dominated the news cycle, and he’s sure to spit out some more quote-worthy material to add to your costume’s flair!
Last year, the Star Wars and Despicable Me franchises held top spots here, but we’re predicting a change in franchises this year. The popular point-and-click video game series Five Nights at Freddy’s looks ready to scare the bejeesus out of everyone this Halloween, while PJ Masks are ready for any and all toddlers and children to wear while they trick-or-treat. These fun-loving animated series is a total hit, and is probably going to be a hit come Halloween!
